Never Miss a Detail: Our New Record Feature

A busy mom is using Primary Record on her phone to record a note.

At Primary Record, we strive to make managing health information easier and more usable. We’re excited to introduce our new recording feature in the notes section of our app. Initially designed for recording doctor visits, this feature allows you to capture vital information and have it transcribed for easy reference. Our chat assistant then makes the transcribed words searchable and summarizable.

Since launching this feature, we’ve been thrilled to hear the many creative ways families and health professionals plan to use it to save time and maintain an accurate health story. Here are a few examples:

Busy Parents

Parents often face a whirlwind of activities after a doctor’s visit. One mom shared her strategy: she starts a new note and records her thoughts while sitting in the car after an appointment. By talking aloud, she captures what she heard, things to research, and any questions. This recording is then transcribed, ensuring nothing is forgotten. Invited collaborators can access both the recording and transcription instantly.

Another parent found the recording feature useful for recapping doctor visits but focused on keeping track of important tasks. By labeling their notes as “Reminders I Need To Do,” they can easily ask the Chat Assistant, “What are all my reminders I need to do?” This ensures no important task is overlooked, helping busy parents stay organized.

Furthermore, parents who manage various clinical tasks at home often have to repeat step-by-step instructions whenever they need help. One parent thought about recording answers to common questions so that collaborators can learn how to use the Chat Assistant to find information. This approach can save time and reduce the need for panicked texts or phone calls, making coordination between multiple helpers less time-consuming for the primary parent organizer.

Adult Children Sharing Care for Their Parents

Summarizing conversations and relaying updates to siblings about an elderly parent can be challenging. Recording with transcription has eased confusion and built trust by letting everyone hear the same conversation. This keeps everyone on the same page and minimizes the emotional stress often caused by text threads and playing telephone tag.

In addition to easing communication, many families get instructions on complicated nursing tasks when an older parent is discharged from a hospital. Recording these instructions ensures that all family members and even hired caregivers invited as collaborators can hear the same information. This improves teamwork and reduces errors.

Even with a living will and other legal documents, emergencies can still leave family members unsure about making healthcare decisions. By recording interviews using guides like those from the Conversation Project, you can ensure these preferences are easy to find and use when needed. Additionally, you can ask our Chat Assistant the best questions to ask a family member about their end-of-life preferences, which can be noted before starting a recording.

Individuals with Complex Medical Histories

Starting a Primary Record can feel overwhelming for those with extensive medical histories, who have binders of paper medical records. One customer decided to focus on their current and future health stories. To capture their complicated medical past, they recorded a note explaining it just as they would to a new doctor. This way, collaborators can easily access and summarize their detailed medical history using the Chat Assistant if they cannot speak for themselves.

Healthcare Advocates in the Community

New client onboarding often involves a home visit followed by manually inputting information into a system after the visit. A patient advocate shared their tip for recording virtual calls with new clients. This allowed them to focus on the conversation without worrying about note-taking. Later, they used Chat Assistant to ask questions and create their intake note.

In Summary

We believe this recording feature will be a game-changer for many of our family and professional customers, providing a convenient way to manage health information as so much often happens outside patient portals. Before recording another person, Primary Record always recommends informing the other person and explaining why you want to record. In the application, we provide quick guidance on your state’s laws around recording. For more information on obtaining legal consent, click here.
